Mabuhay! A trip to parts of Manila may be a step back in time, but the city is now moving at metropolitan speed. Between heritage landmarks, museums, and traditional experiences, keep up with rising mega malls, a booming culinary arena, and a lively arts scene.
As the song from Hotdog goes: “I keep coming back to Manila / Manila, I’m coming home”. I know that just thought of going to Manila can already feel like a drab. But despite all the unwarranted stress that comes with Manila, there are a few places in this city that gets me to come back for more.
This list is your food map of Binondo. Binondo is the oldest Chinatown in the world. It was acknowledged as the permanent settlement of Chinese immigrants last 1594. Along its streets, there are various authentic Chinese restaurants and stalls at reasonable prices.
One sunny afternoon, three little girls went traipsing through Manila like tourists in their own city. We pounded pavement... you'll see how ridiculously far we made it. These ElBi legs were made for walking!
Staying in hotels reminds me of Cinderella. Check in time is usually 3PM: You will be treated like a VIP, a made up room to your liking, amenities that you are looking forward to try, food that will make you guilty as hell BUT when the clock strikes 12PM on your next day, you have to say goodbye to that kind of life cause it’s the standard check out time. This is a list of hotels in the Philippines that I support and I recommend for your momentary Cinderella experience. 💎
In the Philippines, thrift shops are more commonly known as "Ukay-ukay." Ukay-ukay shopping requires a lot of patience, since there are so many clothes to choose from but it's definitely worth it because some of the best cheap clothing finds are found here! I'm proud to say that 60% of the clothes I currently own came from the shops in this list. I'll include pictures of my finds and their price if my memory permits! Looking forward to update this list if I discover more Ukay stores.
We have our way of remembering places, but these guys memorialize them through melody. Check out this playlist to listen to the listed songs and for more titles! 🎶https://open.spotify.com/playlist/66VKIC9MsIEP7ypzHIyEU2?si=igqHc_gLRFyLL2jR2BEJkQ🎵
Gone are the days when a writer’s room is envisioned as the space where the curtains are blocking the sun’s rays. To be one with the world is to write beyond the Self. Here are the nooks that I found where writing can be done within the historical city of Manila.

Read reviews about this hotel and it makes me curious to try it even more. They say this hotel is good for small gatherings and corporate groups who needs room for training etc. This can be an option for corporate activities that will need accommodation.

The hotel has sophisticated rooms that come with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi and sitting areas. Their 1 to 3 bedroom suites include kitchenettes, dining areas and sitting rooms. Their upgraded suites add whirlpool tubs and washer/dryers. A breakfast buffet (fee) is offered in the hotel’s restaurant. There's also an indoor pool, a hot tub and sauna, and a fitness room. If you are looking for a spacious accommodation, this hotel is definitely a contender.

Each rooms has five-star beddings, a 32-inch LCD TV, Wi-Fi Internet, and spacious bath with rain shower. The hotel also has facilities for leisure and business. Our go to burger place in the Metro! They have different flavors but my go to would Walters be the Frenchie! The blend of caramelized onions, the cheese and the sauce is super good and addicting 🙊

Gino’s is more of a favorite of my side of the family. You can never go wrong with their Burrata Caprese, Pesto Pasta, and Margherita Pizza with lots and lots of Gino’s Homemade Spicy Honey! 🍕

A favorite in the Katipunan area, Cello’s serves some of the best donuts this side of town! The fact that it’s a small local chain gives us all the more reason to keep coming back here! My personal favorite is the Cheese donut! 🍩

We’ve spent many a late dinners here, coming from overtime in the office a few years back. I always say this is Filipino versions of Persian food, which is just the way I like it! My recommendations: Beef Manakeesh, Keema with Buttered Rice or Pita, Moussaka Melt with Sola Raspberry! OMG NAKAKAGUTOM! 📷 via Uncle Moes Shawarma Hub/Instagram

One of our favorite burger joints, Sweet Ecstasy has a mean Cheeseburger recipe that @caldefool and I always get with fresh onions. Our sides, being creatures of habit, are always Sriracha Lime Wings and Ecstasy Fries and/or Onion Rings. We used to go to their branch in Katipunan a lot, but it’s closed now. We’re so glad there’s a new one in the neighborhood! 📷 via Sweet Ecstasy/Instagram
