Å

Memory posted 8 months ago

This village in the Lofoten islands in northern Norway is famous for having a one letter name, as well as being home to the world famous Stockfish Museum where you can learn fascinating facts like "Wheelbarrows were used for the internal transport of fish on the quay until the 1970s" and "With the help of air conditioning the stockfish can be dried a further 35%, turning it into klipfish".

Intercourse

Stop your sniggering. The real reason people visit Intercourse, Pennsylvania is definitely to visit the People's Place Quilt Museum, and not to steal its street sign.

Lord Hereford’s Knob

Memory posted 8 months ago

I have climbed Lord Herefords Knob in Wales, and even a quick glans will tell you it requires quite some stamina to reach the summit! This peak close to Hay on Wye in the Black Mountains is a member of the “Nuttalls”, mountains more than 2000 feet in height and 15 meters of prominence. Climb at sunrise to see the mountain in its morning glory, of all the mountain views in Wales, it’s a hard on to beat.

Fucking

Wishlisted 8 months ago

Augustina Lindlbauer, the manager of an area guesthouse, noted that the area around this quaint Austrian village has lakes, forests, and vistas worth visiting, but there was an "obsession with Fucking". Lindlbauer recalled how she had to explain to a British female tourist "that there were no Fucking postcards."

Batman

Wishlisted 8 months ago

A major city in Anatolia, Turkey, the former mayor threatened to sue Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros. for their use of its name in the films Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Visit the ruins of Hasankeyf before they are subsumed underwater by the construction of a new dam (which sounds like a plot by the Joker).

Yes Hell is a real place, a short distance from Trondheim in Norway. If you go in winter you can be pretty confident that Hell will freeze over.

Rednaxela Terrace

Wishlisted

You might be confused by the name of this small street in the mid levels in Hong Kong, as it sounds neither British nor Chinese. Read it backwards and it becomes clearer, it’s Alexander in reverse. Supposedly the nearby land was owned by a Mr Alexander and the road name was transcribed incorrectly during colonial days as Chinese is sometimes written right to left. The name stuck!
