Mak Man Kee Noodle Shop

Recommendation posted a year ago

Every trip to Hong Kong must include noodle soup! To To takes you to Mak Man Kee Noodle Shop in Jordan for a Michelin Bib Gourmand-winning bowl of Wonton Noodles (雲吞麵). For 40 years, the no-frills joint has satisfied its patrons with their flavorful broth, springy handmade duck egg noodles, and famous shrimp dumplings. Servings are small, so order two or three helpings—and a side of Pork Knuckles Braised in Red Taro Curd, too!

Hong Kong Old Restaurant (Kowloon)

Recommendation posted a year ago

Hong Kong Old Restaurant has been serving Shanghainese cuisine since 1993. Although tweaked slightly to accommodate Hong Kong palates, their traditional dishes continue to hit the spot. Must-eats include Smoked Eggs with Walnut, Crispy Fried Eel, and To To’s personal favorite (and a dark horse on the menu): Steamed Shad with Lard (蒸時魚).

Wong Ming Kee

Recommendation posted a year ago

A favorite Teochew (潮州, Chaoshan cuisine) joint, Wong Ming Kee is known for its wide selection of noodles, congee, and rice dishes. Grab a seat in the family-run shop, tucked away from the hustle of the urban jungle. Savor their famous soup, which you should top with Fish Balls (魚蛋) and Fish Dumplings (魚餃) as suggested by To To.

Golden Wheat Thai Restaurant

Recommendation posted a year ago

Find authentic Thai cuisine at Golden Wheat Thai Restaurant. Run by two Thai ladies, this humble shop in Kowloon does justice to the flavors of its homeland by concocting dishes using ingredients imported from Thailand. Their menu boasts over 100 food items, but To To’s pick for the standout dish is the Tom Yung Goong, a hot and sour soup made with shrimp and lemongrass.

Take your place in one of Sister Wah’s six round tables for one of the best bowls of Beef Brisket Noodles you’ll ever have! The Michelin Bib Gourmand-winning family-run restaurant has around 20 items on their menu, the most loved being the Beef Tendon in Clear Soup (清湯腩)—a dish that also rates high on To To’s list of Hong Kong’s best.

Golden City Kitchen

Recommendation posted a year ago

Head to New Territories for a scrumptious treat at Golden City Kitchen! The joint is known for its night market style, so expect a crowd to turn up as soon as the sun goes down. Hearty meals such as congee and rice dishes are available, but the snacks are the main players with To To’s favorite Fish Jaw (魚尖)—made with shrimp paste—leading the bunch.
