Keep your eyes peeled in search for a wall of Chinese stamps. A part of the wall is a door that serves as the entrance. It’s quite easy to miss at first glance, but as you enter Mrs. Pound, you’ll be reminded that the place is anything but a stamp shop. As the story goes, Mrs. Pound used to be a famous burlesque dancer in 1950s Shanghai. When she ran away with her childhood love Mr. Ming, a wealthy married gentleman from Hong Kong, he set up a stamp shop to hide their location and relationship from the public eye. Fuschia walls, emerald green chairs, and movie star mirrors dangling from the ceiling will greet you, combined with an interesting menu that features their quirky take on Asian street food. Start off with their Bulgogi Pork Belly Skewers and Sriracha Street Corn, then follow it up with a bowl of Laksa Bibimbap (Korean mixed rice). Choose from the array of cocktails, or make your own Bloody Mary at the Bloody Mary station. Mrs. Pound also serves coffee, smoothies, and refreshing spritzers, when you’re feeling a little more laid-back.
