From Farm to Table

While “farm-to-table” has become a buzzword in recent years, it’s more than just the latest food trend—it is an advocacy that pushes restaurants to use ingredients sourced directly from farmers or growers, instead of stores or distributors. This creates a direct relationship between restaurateurs and farmer, promising locally sourced ingredients for their patrons. Though it may not seem like it, Metro Manila has a considerable roster of farm-to-table restaurants dedicated to serving wholesome meals made of freshly harvested ingredients on their tables!

Tucked away in a relatively quiet neighborhood in Quezon City, Earth Kitchen proudly supports local farmers and indigenous Philippine communities by showcasing their impressive line of natural and organic produce on their menu. They promote both healthy living and eating, while also helping marginalized groups sustain their thriving livelihood. Its unpretentious façade is quite easy to miss, but dining here never fails. Locavore (BGC)

Makati City, Philippines • Recommendation • 29 May 2018

Locavore is known for its modern take on Filipino cuisine, making use of locally grown and produced ingredients in every single dish they prepare. Probably one of their most popular entrées is the Sizzling Sinigang, which features an unusual spin on the classic Filipino sour soup. Served on a sizzling plate, it consists of beef short ribs, sauteed french beans, sampaloc gravy (tamarind gravy, instead of the traditional broth), and garlic confit. They also have great appetizers, including a Filipino Street Food Platter and Singkamas (turnips), Mangga (mango), and Bagoong (fermented shrimp paste). It’s best to reserve a table beforehand as the restaurant gets packed, especially during lunch and dinner time.
