Tintswalo Atlantic

Cape Town, South Africa • Recommendation • 7 months ago

I highly recommend the incredible chef at Tintswalo Atlantic. Have a seat at the boutique hotel’s restaurant (exclusive to in-house guests) and savor a menu made especially for you. Upon reservation, you’re already asked about your food preferences, but even though you anticipate what’s coming, every bite is a pleasant surprise! Tintswalo Atlantic indulges your stay with astonishing views of Hout Bay, the peak of Sentinel Mountain, and the Atlantic Ocean. About a half hour away from the wineries of Constantia, Cape Town’s hidden gem lies on a pebble beach at the base of Table Mountain, giving you a gorgeous sight dolphins prancing in the water.

Constantia Glen

Cape Town, South Africa • Recommendation • 7 months ago

A picturesque wine estate cradled between Constantiaberg and Table Mountain, Constantia Glen stretches on the oldest wine producing region in South Africa. The wine farm produces 100,000 bottles of ultra-premium, cool climate vino (of four varieties) annually. I swear by Constantia Glen’s flagship wine—Constantia Glen Number 5, a fantastic blend of the five Bordeaux varieties. Pair it with Flammkuchen (German pizza), a fresh summer salad, a cheese and charcuterie platter, or a delectable dessert as you wonder at the vineyard’s marvelous panoramic vistas.

Haute Cabrière

Paarl, South Africa • Recommendation • 7 months ago

A testament to Haute Cabrière’s excellent winemaking philosophy and process, the vineyard’s Chardonnay Pinot Noir converted me into a lover of the zesty fruity drink. Definitely grab a glass of what may be your new favorite vino at the estate’s rustic underground tasting room, as you delight in a wonderful view of Franschhoek Valley. Another wine to look out for is Haute Cabrière’s Pierre Jourdan Méthode Cap Classique, a local version of French Champagne.

Chartfield Guesthouse

Cape Town, South Africa • Recommendation • 7 months ago

Overlooking the harbor, Chartfield Guesthouse rests on the quaint seaside village of Kalk Bay. The grand abode has stood for over 120 years, and has been delicately restored to evoke a charm reminiscent of the past. Beautiful mornings are promised to guests of the Chartfield Guesthouse through the inn’s superb three-course breakfast whipped up using local organic produce. Take a sip of your freshly-squeezed orange juice on the terrace, as you watch the morning’s sun rays touch the cerulean sea.

Among my favorite respites is Babylonstoren, one of the oldest and best preserved Cape Dutch farms. It has diverse fruit and vegetable gardens and vineyards sprawled across eight acres of land. Bask in the gorgeous natural expanse as you try the ranch’s variety of state-of-the-art wines. Housed in an old cow shed fused with modern architecture, Babylonstoren’s Babel Restaurant upholds a farm-to-fork philosophy so menus are always fresh and seasonal—which I absolutely love. Each meal is inventive and unconventional, but its quality of flavor remains consistent at every bite.
