In Arundel, a small historic town on Sussex's south coast is this wildfowl and wetland centre. Well mantained boardwalks let you explore a large area of wetlands full of ducks, geese and swans including endangered species from Iceland and Iraq. There's a nice cafe and kids can enjoy the area for feeding ducks as well as two playgrounds. Come on a weekday and it's very peaceful.

Very popular National Trust gardens in West Sussex. Small interior only as original house belonging to the Messel family was damaged by fire. But the gardens are stunning. Famous herbaceous borders. I love the heather garden. They often have children’s trails eg the snow dog pictured! Pleasant tea room.

Kew in the country. Owned jointly by the National Trust and Kew gardens. Especially beautiful in Spring with daffodils and later the rhododendrons. Superb walks. Great big outdoor Christmas tree at Xmas. Millennium seedbank for the science buffs.

Beautiful gardens near Horsham. They have been closed to the public for about the last 10 years but have recently reopened, having been restored to their former glory. Bonus is The Doll’s House exhibition, which did not sound my sort of thing , but was actually amazing. More of a model village really. Fairly limited food menu in cafes and an upmarket restaurant, which I did not try. But you go for the gardens especially in Spring.

The Snowman is a well loved picture book written and illustrated by Raymond Briggs. Telling the story of a snowman who comes to life, the TV adaptation makes for traditional Christmas time viewing in the UK. As the snowman and his human friend fly into the air to the sound of "Walking in the Air", you get a whistle-stop tour of the South of England, flying over the Downs, and Brighton's famous Palace Pier and Royal Pavilion. The Pavilion is a major landmark in Brighton, built for the Prince Regent (later George IV) as a seaside retreat in a Indo-Saracenic style.

One of the oldest airfields in England, Shoreham Airport plays a special part in The Crown as itself. The Art Deco terminal is seen during the Queen’s air travels, which include her arrival from South Africa after her father’s death, and her trips with Peter Townsend (portrayed by Ben Miles) to and from Northern Ireland. Today, Shoreham Airport is part of Brighton City Airport—an airfield used by flying schools and private aircrafts. In between waving hellos from the tarmac, try to get yourself behind the wheel of a plane for an out-of-this-world experience!
