A lot of cool clothes, accessories, and knick knacks. A lot of good street food to try, too! Bring cash. Haggle in the shops if you can!

While more on the touristy side (meaning inflated prices and huge crowds), Shilin Night Market is a must-visit for any traveller wishing to meander down the paths of local cuisine. The massive spread of stalls allows you to sample through a variety of Taiwanese delicacies (including Bib Gourmand listings), while shopping for souvenirs, playing games and having your fortune read by a bird (yes, you read that one right). Covering the whole market in a single visit feels impossible, and it's easy to get lost within the snaking alleys, so I recommend preparing an action plan of the stalls you want to visit. 🔜 You can read more about my recommended stalls in a separate list 💟 Eating around Taipei 💟 where I'll also share a secret about this market that only the locals know about! (this list is available to my Followers only, so do tap that green button on my profile to become a true Taipei foodie insider 😉)

Everything I consumed at Shilin Night Market made my tummy do happy dances all night! 💃🏻 The torched wagyu cubes were jam-packed with savory juices. 👅 The cheese potatoes looked complicated but all the flavors—from the pineapple to the mayonnaise—married together so well! 👍🏼The fried milk was the absolute winner of my entire trip, though. 🍼 It was so good that I went back to get three more helpings! The candied strawberries were delicious. 🍓 I thought they'd be too sweet but the caramelized sugar perfecly complemented the natural sweetness of the fruit.

It's the most popular night market in Taipei—and for good reason. Lots and lots of food; and in between those there are a million shops! Look for the deep-fried milk. I loved them so much, I went back twice!!!

Shilin Night Market is the largest and most famous night market in all of Taiwan! It comes alive around 5:00PM and stays busy until past midnight. Peruse countless shops offering souvenirs and local street food (we highly recommend that you hunt down the oyster omelet!). Trying everything all at once may seem tempting, but remember to pace yourself; you still have a lot of eating to do!
