Happiness in Singapore

After a bit of rain in the morning, I love walking around in different areas around the quainter parts of the city. I find town too commercialised, but there are such nice little spots cropping up all over, as the “sea turtles” (people who study abroad and bring ideas back) make their way home. The slower relaxed ambience of retirees and quiet helps me take a deep breath and relax. That sense of peace that washes over me is intoxicating and I need more days like that. Happiness. Like this cat.

Sin Heng Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice. Char Siew Roasted Meat & Roast Duck Rice

Singapore, Singapore • Recommendation • 1 June 2018

Good. Char Siew Rice. Hits the spotttt. Even at 4.30pm it’s still open!! Most stalls are closed. Old man does the food and... Man I’m in heaven. SG$2.50. Wow. I actually kinda love this hawker center because the stalls tend to be open even in the middle of the afternoon, while most other places are closed.

So cleannn so nice. I like the lady too! 21 years she’s been here ☺️. But pity this hawker Center usually doesn’t have a lot of stalls open in the mid afternoon (I’m here at 6.30pm now and she’s one of the few spots open!)

Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee

Singapore, Singapore • Recommendation • 17 August 2018

I was super impressed by this roastery!! Their pollen milky cold brew was so addictive. It’s an old old local company apparently and they specialise in filtered coffee (not espressos). Their freshly roasted beans are pretty good too! Quiet super local neighbourhood in an HDB complex! Cell: +65 9088 8600

Happiness in a cup. Love the Tiong Bahru area too. Super peaceful. Be aware of the mosquitos though - they’re fierce! Maybe sit inside if needed?

Black Forest ice cream hits the spot. And their Earl Grey Tie Guan Yin ice cream for a hot summer’s day.

Super yum and delicious Bak Kut Teh... free refills too!! (Many Bak Kut Teh shops actually do free refills). But their You Tiao are freshly fried (from factory pre-made packets, but freshly deep fried anyway) so that is a big win in my book! And my cousin Edmund’s!

Tippling Club

Singapore, Singapore • Recommendation • 10 months ago

Come only for the drinks. Ignore pretentious and overpriced food, especially for dinner. Came for my aunt’s birthday. They tried to do a gastronomic experience but like many gastronomic places, they don’t enhance original flavours of food. Rather, they break it down or displace it into something else. Like actors who overact, these guys over-do. Nevertheless, really good service from Ayo Adeyemi, the assistant head chef from London.

Original is sweet but you can request for it to be slightly less sweet =) Dom thought it was pretty good. I thought it could do with less sugar.

Not as oily as some Chwee Kueh! Tastes quite similar to the kind I grew up with. Hits the spot!

Oriole Coffee + Bar

Singapore, Singapore • Recommendation • 7 months ago

I didn’t love the coffee necessarily (I had a nitro cold brew white coffee, Dom had a black) but it was rejuvenating sitting outside, even with just a glass of sparkling water with lime. Good atmosphere. There seemed to be good food here too but we were too full to eat more.

Right across from Block 71, a great little hub for startups in Singapore! Sits next to a very crowded Starbucks! Why someone would choose a franchise as opposed to a yummy gem like this one is a mystery to me!
