My dream travel: Iceland

Reykjavík

I am a 15-year-old teenage girl studying in Hong Kong, I have always dreamed to go to Iceland and explore the magnificent city and witness the rare but beautiful northern lights. I am a somewhat adventurous person and enjoy scouting for the hidden best to-go spots when I travel. I also enjoy a slow-paced lifestyle, one, in particular, is relaxing alone. This trip is a 3-day trip designed for me (Keona), alone, to go on over a weekend and a public holiday. Since this is a trip planned for one person, my budget will be from $2500 ~ $3000 HKD excluding plane tickets. It will be planned as a Christmas trip in 2020 to the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik.

This hotel is located around 30 minutes away from downtown. The aesthetics of the hostel is very simple but very pleasing to the eye. The interior design is also very suitable for someone like me who is travelling alone and a student who might want an area to work or study as well as other common areas to interact with other travellers. The cost of this hostel is considered reasonable, at $2117 ISK ($134 HKD and $17.1 USD) per night.

I am personally not religious, however, I always love to visit churches and chapels when travelling as the history and design always surprises and fascinates me in all the ways possible. This Lutheran parish church is at 74.5 metres high, it is the largest church in Iceland and among the tallest structures in the country. The entry fee for the church is free however to enter the church tower, the fee for adults is $900 ISK ($57 HKD and $7.27) and free for children aged 7 to 14 is $100 ISK ($6.3 HKD and $0.8 USD).

The restaurant will be a great place to a break from walking and exploring the city. Sitting down and relaxing for a cup of coffee and a piece of bread while listening to traditional vinyl DJ music. The price of this restaurant is mid-range which should be affordable.

I have always enjoyed art myself and going to art museums is a go-to when I’m on a vacation. A museum with modern paintings and sculptures by well-known Icelandic artists with a cafe & gift shop would be a great afternoon activity after a break at the cafe. The entry fee for adults is $1800 ISK ($113 HKD and $14.5 USD), students are $1100 ISK ($70 HKD and $8.8 USD) while children under 18 and visitors with disabilities are free entry.

One of the most attracting and well-known features of Iceland is the northern lights, it is very rare but very special and spectacular when you are able to catch it. It is also one of the main reasons why I want to go to Iceland. The Grótta Island Lighthouse is an easily accessible place where the road ends at a car park with a few other spots near the place.
